Yeah? Well screw you too, John Smiley

I saw the name John Smiley today on the Internet and thought about him for a second. Smiley was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates among others in the 1980s and 90s.

I’ll bet anyone $10 right now that these words have been spoken before by John Smiley:

“Oh yeah? Well I’m John Smiley, who the fuck are you?”

He just seemed like that kind of guy.

In a two-party system, being wildly partisan is just stupid

I was tooling around a right-wing “oh my god, the media’s liberal” Web site called Newsbusters the other day for kicks.

It’s basically one of those republican-funded sites, like the democrats have with Media Matters. Each are more or less meaningless to the state of the world today, because all they do is attract the wildly partisan.

It was funny to visit the site, though, and depressing how thoroughly so many people are willing to sell out everything in order to help forward their party. That really goes both ways, too. Whether republican or democrat, once you start apologizing for a politician’s behavior, that’s already too far, you’ve crossed the line.

Because they work for us. They need to be endlessly scrutinized, not covered up. Not argued for.

There’s no doubt that one’s political beliefs are somehow connected to the ego. It’s very easy to argue politics, and fun to fight over them.

In the end, however, treating politics as a sport helps nothing. And in a two-party system where less and less separates the parties, it’s just plain foolish.

Homeland Security: Keeping America safe while putting the make on kids for nearly 5 years

Wouldn’t it just suck to wake up one morning and have the whole world know your dirty little secret? Well, it would suck more if that little secret involved seducing little kids: Welcome to the world of Brian J.Doyle.

Currently, Doyle has been charged with charged with seven counts of use of a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor. Which I believe is several more counts than even Homeland Security workers can get away with.

This is what happens when government gets to big, you know. They start raping children. Seriously, read up on Rome. Their Homeland Security Department was the end of the empire.

Let’s keep something in mind. The guy on the left is the accused pedophile, Brian J. Doyle. On the right is Brian Doyle-Murray, who helped write Caddyshack and who is, by all accounts, a swell fellow.
