Barcelona does the double with deserving 2-1 victory over Arsenal

In the end, it wasn’t Ronaldinho or Theirry Henry — it was Henrik Larssen.

Larssen set up both Barcelona’s goals as the Spanish team added the UEFA Champions League title to its Spanish League triumph by topping Arsenal 2-1 in Paris. Samuel Eto’o and Belletti were the goal scorers for Barca, while Sol Cambell headed in an Henry free kick to open the scoring.

Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann was red-carded at the 17 minute mark, and deserved it. He grabbed Eto’o, and it was a fair call, unlike the flop call that led to Arsenal’s goal.

Ronaldinho has had better days, as had Henry, and the two main standouts for the victors were keeper Victor Valdes, and Larssen.

A fine game in the rain. Not like the 2005 final, but few games will ever reach the levels of Liverpool’s victory.

Barcelona against Arsenal for all the marbles

Ronaldinho vs. Thierry Henry for the Champions League title. It really doesn’t get any better than that. If you don’t watch soccer, watch this one and you’ll see what all the fuss is about.

The Brazilian and the Frenchman are very likely the best two players in the game right now.

Let’s go with Barcelona, 3-2, as Ronaldinho captures the second of his three titles for the year — Spanish League, Champions League, and then the World Cup.

How to solve the problem of illegal immigration? Well, apparently, like so many issues, it can be rectified if you follow the trail blazed by the nazis.

From the intellectual paradise known as WorldNetDaily explaining that deportation isn’t as tough as everyone makes it out to be:

“Not only will it work, but one can easily estimate how long it would take. If it took the Germans less than four years to rid themselves of 6 million Jews, many of whom spoke German and were fully integrated into German society, it couldn’t possibly take more than eight years to deport 12 million illegal aliens, many of whom don’t speak English and are not integrated into American society.”

Well, at least they’re getting more honest about their influences.

The Vlogosphere: Perhaps freedom of speech is overrated

I really like this rant.

Why? Well, it was aimed at the place I work for one. Even more so, I appreciate the anger that there’s sexism in the “vlogosphere.”

Who would have thought that a soon-to-be overcrowded medium could have sexism attached to it? Shocking. All things computer had been so balanced up until now.

What did I learn from the video? Well, nothing much, but at least Barbara Shoot probably feels better. Though I could just imagine her making that speech in front of her bathroom mirror about five years ago, patiently awaiting for Vlogs to get popular.

And I solemnly swear to never again write the word “vlogosphere.” It’s much too gay … chicky … lame.

Please listen to us! The last days of talk radio a festival of gibberish

CNN was doing something last night about talk radio hosts, who were obviously thrilled to have some vague amount of relevance attached to them, if only for a few minutes between commercials.

The best line I heard, from Dennis Prager on immigration:

“Mexico never needs to address it’s own rampant corruption because they ship their poor to the U.S.”

Ah, the death throes of talk radio. My prediction is that eventually talk radio hosts won’t even bother to speak in sentences. They’ll just shout keywords: “Britney! Michelle Wie! Lesbians! Immigrants!”

Rush Limbaugh really picked a bad time to get off the junk. This should get ugly.

Oscar De La Hoya batters Ricardo Mayorga: Here’s hoping it was the Golden Boy’s curtain call

After watching Oscar De La Hoya manhandle Ricardo Mayorga to the tune of a completely dominant 6th-round TKO, it’s become apparent that, at 33, the Golden Boy is finally being embraced.

He’s always been embraced by his multitude of fans, of course, but now even his critics have to look at his body of work and grudgingly respect De La Hoya’s career.

It was a confident, dominant performance by De La Hoya, light years removed from the worst performance of his career — the ninth-round body-shot knockout he suffered at the hands of Bernard Hopkins.

But Oscar came out with guns blazing against Mayoga in Las Vegas, and reminded everyone of his quality, as well as the devastation his left hook can bring when he commits to it.

At 33, we’re seeing the final rounds of De La Hoya’s career, but against Mayorga he appeared to be the Golden Boy again. Now would be time for De La Hoya to take his WBC Jr. Middleweight title and head off to a sunset of promotions, singing and stardom.

Because if he continues fighting, his path leads to only one man — Floyd Mayweather. If Oscar wants to leave his active boxing career with fans and critics impressed, then the time to leave is now. Because a fight with “Pretty Boy” appears unwinnable.

But regardless, a fine performance by De La Hoya in what could be a fantastic way to call it a career.

Love will find a way: Can Tom Cruise hold off Pablo Cruise?

Of this, there should be no doubt: Over the last couple years, the band Pablo Cruise has really made up some ground on Tom Cruise for the title of the most popular cruise.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines have also made a big run at the popularity of the L. Ron Hubbard-loving Mission Impossible star. Sadly though, Penelope Cruz has stagnated, due to her prior affiliation with Cruise. Tom, not Pablo.

Just more proof that showing too much of your inner personality will get you nowhere if that inner personality was forged by some science fiction writer.

Dear immigrants: Thanks for the march, now go back to work

That immigration became an important issue this year was somewhat surprising, but likely unavoidable due to public clamoring and it being an election year.

The thing is, however, it is now more or less officially done as an issue. Congressmen have frothed, people have marched, the issue is done, nothing will happen.

Personally, I don’t believe anything will ever happen in regards to illegal immigrants into the U.S. There will always be a considerable side who will refuse to allow illegal immigrants anything except expulsion. And as long as it is unfeasible to eject all the illegals and as long as our politicians are beholden to Big Business, the issue will remain stalemated.

Because it’s not like either side of the U.S. government really wants to see any legislation passed on illegal immigration. It’s an election year, and people are getting their election-year quotes in line, and where they publicly stood on the immigration issue will count.

And when all is said and done in regards to immigration, nothing will have happened.
